Blackduck
Lake or the Duck as we call it, is the gem. A walleye factory in
every sense, the Duck is heavily stocked by the Minnesota DNR and the test
nets prove it is working.
Blackduck really shines the first half
of the season with walleyes hitting on the traditional jig and
minnow or a slip bobber rig with minnows or leeches.
As the season
progresses live bait rigs such as a lindy or roach rig take the
stage. Tip with a crawler or leech, these rigs are very effective.
Other presentations that produce well include crank baits (shad
raps) and bottom bouncers with a spinner allows you to cover more
water as the walleyes become less concentrated. Then as the season
progresses and the water cools, jigs and minnows come back into
play.
Don't think walleyes are the only show in town, the Duck has
beautiful jumbo perch, numerous northern pike, and to a lesser
degree crappies (think big). A small number of huge largemouth
bass call the Duck home, they are hard to catch but once caught
they are definitely picture worthy.
Surrounding Blackduck are numerous smaller lakes that give you the
chance to explore our area, dozens of pan fish lakes, more shots at
walleyes, northern pike and bass, and even a designated trout
lake. One area lake even has a small smallmouth bass (no pun
intended) population, lets release these fish.
Blackduck is only a short drive from some of the worlds best trophy muskie and pike waters.
Red Lake, Winnie, Cass and Lake
Bemidji all
offer you a chance to catch the fish of a lifetime. No need to haul or buy
expensive big fish gear as several local guides can provide you a
shot at one of these trophies. |
